Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 april 2026
Welcome to the privacy policy of Blurdy. We get it: privacy policies are usually not the most exciting thing to read. That is why we want to keep this as clear and straightforward as possible. In this privacy policy, we explain what data we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, who we share it with, and what rights and choices you have. If you have any questions about this privacy policy or about your data, you can always contact us at support@blurdy.co.
1. Who are we?

Blurdy is a dating app operated by:

  • Legal entity: SUNBAE
  • Trade name: Blurdy
  • Address: Wormerveerstraat 51, 6843 AL, Netherlands
  • Email: info@blurdy.co
  • Privacy & support: support@blurdy.co

SUNBAE, trading as Blurdy, is the controller responsible for the processing of your personal data as described in this privacy policy.

2. Who does this privacy policy apply to?

This privacy policy applies to everyone using the Blurdy iOS app in the Netherlands and, where available, other countries in Europe.

Blurdy is intended only for people who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly process personal data of anyone under the age of 18.

We may ask for your date of birth or age to help verify that you are old enough to use Blurdy. If we discover or reasonably suspect that a user is under 18, we may suspend or delete the account and take steps to remove the related personal data, unless we need to keep limited information for safety, legal, or fraud-prevention purposes.

3. What data do we collect?

To make Blurdy work properly, we collect certain information about you and your use of the app.

Information you provide to us

When you create an account or complete your profile, you may provide us with information such as:

  • your name or display name;
  • your email address;
  • your date of birth and age;
  • your gender;
  • the gender(s) you are interested in;
  • your dating goals;
  • your interests;
  • your bio or profile text;
  • photos you upload;
  • other profile information you choose to provide.

Location data

Because Blurdy is a dating app, we also use location data. This may include:

  • coordinates from your device;
  • derived location data;
  • estimated distance between you and other users.

We use your location to show relevant profiles near you and to calculate approximate distance. We do not show your exact coordinates to other users. Depending on your device settings, Blurdy may receive precise or approximate location data. You can disable or change location access at any time in your device settings, but some features may not work properly without location access.

Blurdy does not collect your location in the background unless this is clearly enabled and permitted by you.

Messages and communications

If you chat with other users through Blurdy, we process:

  • the content of your messages;
  • the time messages are sent and received;
  • technical metadata needed to deliver messages properly and keep the service secure.

We may also process messages and related metadata for safety, moderation, fraud prevention, abuse detection, support, and enforcement of our terms and community rules.

Photos and media

Photos you upload are stored and linked to your account or user ID so they can be displayed on your profile.

Purchases and subscriptions

If you use paid features or subscriptions, we may process data such as:

  • your subscription status;
  • purchase information;
  • technical transaction data.

As a rule, we do not process your full payment card details ourselves. Payments are handled through third parties such as Apple and RevenueCat.

Technical data

We also collect technical and usage data, such as:

  • IP address;
  • device model;
  • operating system;
  • app version;
  • language and region settings;
  • log data;
  • in-app usage events;
  • crash information;
  • error reports;
  • diagnostic and performance data.

Verification data

We process information needed to verify your email address.

Safety and moderation data

To help keep Blurdy safe, we may also process data relating to:

  • user reports;
  • blocks;
  • signs of spam, fraud, or misuse;
  • internal safety-related notes.

Push Notifications

If you enable push notifications, we may process device tokens and notification preferences to send you notifications about messages, matches, likes, safety updates, account-related information, or other app-related updates. You can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings.

Email Notifications

We may use your email address to send verification emails, account-related messages, safety notices, support replies, important service updates, and other necessary communications. Where required, marketing emails are only sent with your consent and can be unsubscribed from.

4. Why do we collect this data?

In simple terms: so Blurdy works the way a dating app is supposed to work, and so we can keep the app safe and reliable.

We use your data to:

  • create and manage your account;
  • verify your email address;
  • verify that users meet the minimum age requirement;
  • display your profile;
  • match users with one another;
  • show profiles in your area;
  • personalize profile recommendations and profile ordering;
  • enable messaging between users;
  • send account-related emails and notifications;
  • process purchases and subscriptions;
  • prevent fraud, spam, and misuse;
  • handle reports and complaints;
  • enforce our terms, community guidelines, and safety rules;
  • provide support;
  • analyze and improve the app;
  • measure campaigns and advertising performance, where allowed;
  • respond to legal requests or comply with applicable laws.
5. What is our legal basis for processing your data?

We only process your personal data where we have a valid legal basis to do so.

To provide our service to you

Most of the data we process is necessary to make Blurdy work. Without it, we would not be able to create your account, show your profile, suggest matches, or enable messaging.

For our legitimate interests

In some cases, we process data because it is necessary to keep Blurdy safe, stable, and improved. This includes things like:

  • security;
  • fraud prevention;
  • misuse detection;
  • internal analysis;
  • product improvement;
  • handling reports and complaints.

Based on your consent

For some processing activities, we ask for your consent. This may include certain types of location access, push notifications, marketing communications, advertising-related tracking, or processing that requires consent under applicable law.

Where Blurdy processes data that may qualify as special category data under the GDPR, such as information that may reveal your sexual orientation, dating preferences, sex life, or other sensitive aspects of your identity, we rely on your explicit consent where required.

You can withdraw your consent at any time. If you withdraw consent for processing that is necessary for key dating features, some parts of Blurdy may no longer work properly for you.

To comply with legal obligations

In some situations, we may need to process data in order to comply with a legal obligation.

To protect users and the platform
In some cases, we process data to protect the safety, rights, and interests of users, Blurdy, and others. This may include investigating reports, preventing fraud or abuse, enforcing our terms, and keeping records where needed for disputes, safety, or legal reasons.

6. Can some profile data be more sensitive?

Yes. Because Blurdy is a dating app, some information may be more privacy-sensitive than standard account information. Some information you provide or generate through the app may also qualify as special category data under the GDPR, for example information that may reveal your sexual orientation, dating preferences, sex life, or other sensitive aspects of your identity.

This may include:

  • your gender;
  • the gender(s) you are interested in;
  • your dating preferences or dating goals;
  • your photos, bio, interests, or profile content if they reveal sensitive information;
  • the fact that you use a dating app.

We process this type of information only where necessary to operate Blurdy, provide dating-related features, keep the app safe, or where we have your explicit consent or another valid legal basis under applicable law.

By creating a dating profile and choosing to provide this information, you understand that this information may be used to display your profile, suggest profiles, support matching, and allow other users to interact with you through the app.

You can update or remove certain profile information in the app, withdraw consent where applicable, or delete your account. If you remove or withdraw consent for information that is necessary for the dating service, some features may no longer work properly.

7. What can other users see?

When you use Blurdy, certain profile information may be visible to other users, depending on your settings and how the app works. This may include:

  • your display name;
  • your age;
  • your photos;
  • your gender;
  • your dating goals;
  • your interests;
  • your bio or profile text;
  • your approximate distance or location-based information;
  • other profile details you choose to add.

Your exact coordinates are not shown to other users.

Other users may also see certain interactions, such as whether you match, message, like, or otherwise interact with them, depending on the features available in the app.

8. Who do we share your data with?

We only share your data where necessary to operate, secure, or improve Blurdy.

This may include:

  • Firebase / Google Cloud for hosting, authentication, database services, backend services, storage, analytics, crash reporting, security, and infrastructure;
  • RevenueCat for subscriptions and in-app purchase management;
  • Apple / App Store Connect for app distribution, purchases, subscriptions, platform functionality, and app-related services;
  • Google for analytics, advertising, attribution, or campaign measurement purposes, such as Google Ads, where allowed.

We do not intentionally share the content of your private messages, your exact location, or sensitive dating-related profile information with advertising partners for targeted advertising.

Where third parties process personal data on our behalf, we put appropriate data processing arrangements in place where required.

9. Is your data processed outside the EU/EEA?

Because we use international technology providers such as Google/Firebase, your personal data may be processed outside the European Economic Area or made accessible from countries outside the EEA.

If that happens, we take steps to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place, for example through:

  • an adequacy decision;
  • standard contractual clauses; or
  • another legally permitted transfer mechanism.

10. How long do we keep your data?

We do not keep your personal data longer than necessary.

In general, we apply the following retention periods:

Account and profile data

For as long as your account remains active. After account deletion, we delete or anonymize this data unless we need to keep limited information for safety, legal, fraud-prevention, dispute, or compliance reasons.

Photos and profile content

For as long as they remain part of your account.

Messages

Messages are generally kept for as long as your account is active, unless they are deleted earlier or unless longer retention is necessary for safety, moderation, legal compliance, dispute resolution, or enforcement of our terms.

If you delete your account, your messages may no longer be visible as part of your profile, but copies may remain for other users in their chat history unless deletion is required or technically feasible.

Temporary backend and log data

In principle, up to 7 days, unless a longer period is needed for security, troubleshooting, or legal compliance.

Reports, blocks, and safety-related data

Up to 24 months after they are recorded, where necessary to protect user safety and platform integrity.

Support requests

In principle, up to 12 months after the matter has been resolved.

Analytics and aggregated data

May be retained for longer where the data has been aggregated or is no longer directly linked to you.

Backups

Data may temporarily remain in backups and will later be overwritten or deleted in accordance with our backup policies.

11. How do we protect your data?

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data.

For Blurdy, this includes:

  • technical access controls;
  • secure storage through trusted infrastructure providers;
  • monitoring and logging where appropriate;
  • mandatory email verification;
  • Firestore security rules;
  • access restrictions where relevant;
  • the ability for users to block others;
  • the ability for users to report others;
  • safety and moderation processes.

No system is 100% perfect or completely secure, but we do our best to reduce risks as much as possible.

12. Analytics, advertising, and tracking

Blurdy uses tools such as:

  • Firebase Analytics;
  • Google Ads;
  • RevenueCat;
  • Apple platform services for distribution and purchases.

These tools may process data about app usage, performance, in-app events, purchases, subscriptions, attribution, campaign results, diagnostics, and technical events.

Where required by law, we only use non-essential tracking, advertising identifiers, or advertising-related processing where we have a valid legal basis, such as consent.

We do not intentionally use the content of your private messages, your exact location, or sensitive dating-related profile information for targeted advertising.

You can manage certain tracking and advertising choices through your device settings, app settings, or consent choices where available.

13. Matching, recommendations, and profile ordering

Blurdy may use information such as your profile details, dating preferences, location, activity, and interactions to suggest profiles, order profiles, improve relevance, and support matching functionality.

This helps us show profiles that may be more relevant to you and improve the overall user experience.

Blurdy does not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.

14. Your rights and choices

You have rights in relation to your personal data. You may ask us for:

  • access to your data;
  • correction of your data;
  • deletion of your data;
  • restriction of processing;
  • objection to certain processing;
  • data portability, where applicable;
  • withdrawal of consent, where processing is based on consent;
  • the right not to be subject to certain automated decisions, where applicable.

You can contact us for this at support@blurdy.co.

You can also update or delete certain profile information directly in the app.

We may ask for additional information to confirm that you are the correct person before handling your request.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the relevant data protection authority, such as the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

15. Reporting, blocking, and community safety

We want Blurdy to remain a safe place. That is why we may process data in connection with:

  • user reports;
  • blocking;
  • investigations into inappropriate behavior;
  • fraud, spam, or misuse;
  • enforcement of our rules and terms.

These activities help us keep the app safer and more trustworthy for everyone.

16. What happens if you delete your account?

You can delete your account in the Blurdy app by going to Settings > Edit Account > Delete account. You can also contact us at support@blurdy.co if you need help with account deletion.

If you delete your account, we will generally remove or anonymize your account, profile data, photos, and email address from the active user environment.

Some data may still remain on a limited basis:

  • in backups;
  • in security and log system data;
  • in reporting or moderation files;
  • in aggregated or non-directly identifiable analytics;
  • where retention is required by law or in connection with a dispute.

After deletion, some information may not be immediately removed from backups, but it will be overwritten or deleted in accordance with our backup processes.

17. Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time, for example if the law changes, if Blurdy introduces new features, or if our data practices change.

The most current version of this privacy policy will be made available through the app or on a public webpage. If we make material changes, we may notify you through the app, by email, or by another appropriate method.
